Welcome home, please excuse the mess; we’re still renovating things. As this is the Introductory Article, I won’t take too much of your time, but what I will do is go over a few of the things that really makes me excited about this new stage in Happy-Land’s life. I mean, who the <CENSORED> knows what the future will bring? — hopefully more of the good and less of the bad!
This website is a labour of love (and hopefully someday soon I’ll find out how to make money by selling that love). As per usual, I'm trying to be forward thinking and innovative with how I present things here. So, let me go over some of the key features that you'll find in happy-land (and nowhere else!)
As you can see, I’ve adopted this nice large title box, ala many other websites. I was reluctant to do so at first, but I really admire the beauty in using a lot of space graphically. And you can't tell it here, but eventually I’ll even be able to put pictures in the title, too, just to make it all that much more beautiful. And when there’s no picture, the title doesn’t have to be this bold powerful red either -- it can be any colour I choose.
The biggest thing that I'm proud of is self-censorship. In general, I'm not a fan of imposed censorship. We're all adults here (oh, btw, quick TOS: you must be an adult to view this website... okay, that should cover us. Now we can discuss raunchy and “adult” topics with wild abandon), so we can decide what we want to and don’t want to expose ourselves to. I’ve been known to cuss on occasion, and often without even realising it, so what this self-censorship will do is allow me to flag words to be censored, such as <CENSORED>, <CENSORED>, <CENSORED>, or <CENSORED>. But, the fun does not stop there. I can also designate "alternate" terms to use in the censored word's place, rather than just outright blocking it. These can be whatever I like, but often I will try and use a word that keeps the same context, like: shoot, gosh-darn-it, or kitty. You can choose to view things uncensored by simply creating an account, logging in, and turning off the censor setting (creating accounts not supported yet).
But wait, there's more! I plan on extending this auto-censoring to also include black bars and/or circles to cover arbitrary parts of the title photo as well. I don't plan to extend this to cover individual images in an article, however, but I might if given more thought. What I will do though, is maintain a policy of no offending images in the teaser. If you might be adverse to seeing something like that, you don't have to click further to view the rest of the article.
So, that's the basics. I hope that I will provide articles of a decent length, and some thought provoking content, not just empty repeating of some random funny video or picture that I found on the internet... I won't make that mistake again... that's what Facebook is for!
